To enable the seamless delivery of our projects, we require Textiles Machinists to join our South Nowra team. To be successful in this role, you will need to operate industrial machines and equipment to assemble or repair canvas and PVC components using technical drawings and instructions.

I am the Operations supervisor at GDS, and my job includes supervising two workshops; managing canvas production, R & O projects, manufacturing product, container fit-outs, R & D projects as well as delivering the smaller projects. We work at implementing work efficiencies in the workshop to everchanging priorities.

 I love my job, and I love coming to work each day, the diversity of my job, being kept on my toes every single day in the fast-paced environment of my position, I enjoy the challenges of meeting deadlines and delivering quality products. I do not live the same day twice and the fact of it being impossible for me to ever be bored at work, the days go fast, and each one is fulfilled.

Due to an increase in demand for canvas and soft shelter products, we need to increase our resources in the Textiles Workshop. This position will work alongside the existing Textiles Machinists within the business.

This role requires someone who can effectively use industrial machines to manufacture canvas.

Duties will include:

  • Manufacture textile parts and components maintaining accuracy and quality to the specifications required
  • Take measurements and mark materials for cutting or shaping
  • Plan the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of projects
  • Monitor output to ensure consistency with specifications with minimal defects
  • Be a valuable member and contributor to the textile tea

  • Prior experience with machine tools and industrial sewing machines
  • Experience with frequency welders
  • Knowledge in the operation of CNC Plotters, or a willingness to learn
  • Demonstrated high-quality workmanship
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and instructions
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve machinery problems to minimise manufacturing interruptions
  • An innovative problem solver
  • A drive to deliver quality whilst meeting deadlines
